Born in Gunma in1938, Mr. Tomio TSUTSUMI graduated from the Low School of the University of Tokyo and entered the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI, which is now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, METI) of the Government of Japan in 1962. After holding many important positions, such as the Japanese Consul at San Francisco, USA, Director-General of International Trade Administration Bureau, Director-General of Consumer Goods Industries Bureau, Director-General of the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy, Director-General of Industrial Policy Bureau, Vice-Minister for the MITI (1994-1996), he left from the Ministry in 1996. Then, he took the post of president of Japan Finance Corporation for Small and Medium Enterprise from 1998 to 2003. His current post is Corporate Advisor – Member of the Board of Japan’s biggest trading house, Mitsubishi Corporation.
